First Steps for designing and purchasing a headstone:
1. Understand the Cemetery Requirements

Before anything else, check with the cemetery where the monument will be placed. Every cemetery has rules about:

  • Monument size and height

  • Allowed materials (granite, bronze, etc.)

  • Placement and foundation requirements

Knowing these requirements upfront helps us design something that meets both your wishes and the cemetery’s guidelines.

2. Choose the Type of Monument

We begin by helping you decide what type of memorial is best:

  • Upright Monuments

  • Flat Markers

  • Bevel Stones

  • Single, Double, or Family Monuments

Each style has its own look and feel, and we’ll explain which options fit your preferences and cemetery regulations.  Tip: A single monument is for one person, while a double is designed for two people. Flat and bevel markers can be perfect for lawn sections and cemeteries with specific rules.

3. Select Your Stone Material & Color

The material you choose impacts both the durability and appearance of your monument.

Most families choose granite because of its:

  • Long-lasting durability

  • Variety of colors (black, gray, red, blue, etc.)

  • Resistance to weather and wear

Other options like bronze accents or other stones can be discussed based on aesthetic preferences.

4. Pick the Shape & Style

Monument shape and style help create a design that truly reflects your loved one’s personality and legacy.

Popular monument styles include:

  • Classic upright tablets

  • Flat lawn markers

  • Special shapes or custom silhouettes

  • Family monuments with scrolls or carved motifs

We’ll walk you through shape options that match both your vision and cemetery specifications.

For help choosing the shape and style, you can view our Virtual display by clicking the button on the left. All of these monuments are on our lot and can be set within 6-12 weeks.

5. Design the Inscription & Personal Elements

This is one of the most meaningful parts of the process, where you decide what words and symbols will be carved into the stone.

Common inscription elements include:

  • Full name and dates of birth and passing

  • A heartfelt epitaph or personal message

  • Religious symbols, emblems, original artwork, or favorite imagery

  • Laser-etched photos or portraits

We’ll help you explore inscription fonts, layout options, and styles so every detail honors the person’s life.

6. Review Your Proof & Finalize the Design

Once you’ve chosen your materials, shape, and inscriptions, we’ll prepare a final design proof for your review.

This digital or printed mock-up shows what your completed monument will look like — including layout, text placement, and any custom graphics.

Before production begins, you’ll:
1. Review the spelling, layout, and size
2. Make any final adjustments
3. Give your approval for production

This ensures your monument is exactly what you envisioned.

After final approval:
  1. Our team carefully cut, carve, and engrave your design.

  2. We handle shipping and transportation.

  3. Your monument is professionally installed at the cemetery.
